Guest Blogger Jesi Haack: Define Your Cake Style

We have fabulous news ... Jesi Haack is baack and this time the topic she shares will make your mouth water :)  Below is some advice from this master wedding coordinator ... paired with gorgeous sweets from My Sweet and Saucy.  It doesn't get much better!

You know our motto over here at Jesi Haack Weddings, DEFINE YOUR STYLE.  With every area of your wedding design, take the opportunity to show your personality, including with your dessert display.  We teamed up with Sweet and Saucy Shop to give you five amazing options to spice up your wedding with sugary sweetness!

#1 Mini Dessert Spread including homemade fudge from your grandma with a faux wedding cake :)

Your grandma wants to make your wedding cake.  She was thinking 4 tiers spread out with a plastic bridge connecting them all.  You were thinking, NO WAY.  How should you A. get grandma involved B. have a traditional wedding cake, and C. create something fun and different all at the SAME TIME?  Offer your guests a variety of mini desserts, like, key lime pie, peanut butter chocolate bars, or mini cheesecakes.  Display them on something unique and memorable, like these lovely tree stumps I pulled out of my friend’s backyard.  Ask Grandma to make a truckload of her favorite fudge and add that to the dessert display.  To top off the look and to add the traditional wedding cake, have a “faux” cake made with a real cake topper that you can cut into at your reception.  It’s a great way to have your cake and eat it too!  Hilarious, I know.

#2 Cupcake tower made to look like a cake with a real cake topper for bride and groom to cut into

Not into cake?  Let’s do cupcakes!  Mini cupcakes even!!!  But style it to create a dramatic cake effect.  Cover Styrofoam rounds with your favorite paper and stack them up.  Then line your cupcakes around the edges for the finished “cake” look.  To bring even more of the tradition in, we added a six-inch cake to the top for the bride and groom to cut into! This dessert display is an innovative way to bring in tradition in a non-traditional way.

#3 A variety of different flavors of small cakes with a precious cake topper on one :)

I’m indecisive.  I like variety.  That’s why buffets always get me excited.  I get to have crab legs AND mac n cheese.  Together.  So offering guests several different versions and flavors of cakes is my kind of party.  To add a little of your own flavor, choose a sweet little cake topper to top off a center cake!

#4 Cake, candy & dessert bar combo

Do you even understand how excited your friends will be if you give them cake AND candy????  This one is the big daddy.  We combined the “faux” cake, mini cupcakes, mini dessert display AND jars of candy.  We also had milk and cookie shots!  The cotton candy, jars of sour balls, and chocolate dipped pretzels brought in a sleek and modern design to our white cake stands filled with yummy little pieces of magic!

#5 A table full of homemade goodies from guests and family with a real concept cake to match your wedding design

Small budget?  Talented friends?  Lots of grandmas and aunts?  Get them baking!  This table displayed several family favorite desserts made from family and friends of the bride and groom.  Not only does it look completely adorable, it tastes amazing since it’s all family recipes!  Do you still feel the need for your own style and personality?  Bring in a custom cake that supports the concept of your wedding for a centerpiece to the display that will blow your guests away!  Yes, this is a cake, not a block of wood!
