A Columbia South Carolina Wedding at 701 Whaley
What made me fall in love with this darling Columbia, South Carolina wedding that Corey and Eric had? Their gorgeous wedding cake that was suspended from the ceiling on a swing!! I had never seen anything like that before and felt it was so unique! I also love the purple tulips on the tables and the hanging lanterns in their venue.
Our cake was absolutely stunning! I wanted an all-white cake that was very sleek and modern. It was exactly that, with very smooth lines and a simple white fondant bow. It was suspended from the ceiling and was hanging on a gorgeous fabric covered stand. It was a huge hit of the day! Our cake was by Parkland Cakes.
Melanie Murphy with By Invitation Only was our wedding coordinator. I just cannot say enough about her! She was absolutely amazing and did not miss a beat. From the moment we met with her I knew the day would not be able to go smoothly without her. Melanie and her team were incredible and took care of absolutely everything! The best advice I was given was to hire her and I would tell every bride out there they need her. She is also responsible for one of the biggest hits of the day which was our suspended wedding cake! Yes, our wedding cake was suspended and hanging from the ceiling, it was awesome!
Eric and I were planning our wedding from out of town so we relied a lot on online reviews and portfolios. When we searched for a photographer we came across Josh and Aaron with Joshua Aaron Photography and instantly fell in love with their work. Starting with their website which was so creative, then we saw their portfolio and knew that they would be the perfect choice to capture our day! They really were amazing!
I think the best advice I can give is to make sure you and your fiance stay true to who you both are. From the moment you get engaged everyone wants to help you plan your wedding. We listened to every recommendation and looked into all of them, but at the end of the day we made our own decisions and chose exactly what we wanted. The day is for the two of you and you need to keep reminding yourself of that. We also found something we loved and decided on it. We didn’t continue to search for things once we found something we liked, it’s easy to make yourself crazy! Most importantly, on the actual wedding day something will most likely go wrong. Eric and I said through the entire process that the most important thing is that at 5pm we were going to be “Mr. and Mrs. Eric Stahl” and nothing else mattered. Keep that in mind, that is the best advice I can give!
The moment I walked into 701 Whaley I knew it was the place! It has these fabulous distressed walls, a totally open ceiling, and these absolutely gorgeous windows that are almost from floor to ceiling! The place has a very open feeling, kind of like an empty warehouse and is really a very modern blank canvas. I had a certain picture in my mind of what the room would look like when everything was all together and this was just the perfect place! It also has a beautiful wood staircase and tons of spots that were perfect for pictures!
Our band was too fabulous not to give them a shout out! They are called GLOW and came in from Atlanta. We had actually never seen them in person before we hired them. We came across them online one night and watched their promo video and were instantly sold! They just had such incredible energy and we could tell that they would get everyone on the dance floor. They did exactly that! They were unbelievable and to this day everyone is still telling us how amazing they were and that our wedding was the most fun because of them!
