A New York Wedding at Steiner Studios
When I saw the first image of this real wedding feature I was immediately in love! The colors of the bridesmaid dresses are gorgeous and perfectly mismatched. I love that they all got the same Bella Bridesmaid dress and just changed the colors … it makes me want that dress in each color! And how stunning do they look next to HyeMi’s Oscar de la Rental gown!? Also, I love the touch of chevron detailing in their stationery. Get your pinning finger ready, because the eye-candy in this real wedding is going to make your boards all that more delicious!
Bobby and I both love summer and sun. And we also love all things modern. So in choosing a venue we really wanted something different from the usual wedding reception halls or hotel ballrooms available in the city. As soon as we stood facing each other on the terrace of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, we knew that was the spot we wanted to get married! It was the perfect location for a summer wedding facing the city we love and the clean aesthetic was an amazing blank canvas.
I really didn’t want to drive myself crazy with details. We chose to focus on our wedding party attire, the florals and chevron wedding stationery and made sure those elements conveyed the romantic and fresh modern look that we love. We couldn’t have been happier with the whole day!
HyeMi: This is a hard one…. I think my favorite moment was when Bobby and I finally got to sit at our table for our dinner reception. It was really the first time we had a private moment to ourselves to catch up and appreciate the day. We were able to take in the beautiful scene and admire all our closest friends and family seated in front of us having a great time. Being an “observer” for a little while was a nice relief from the day’s mayhem.
Bobby: When we were seated at reception, listening to the first few speeches form the Best Man and Maid of Honor.
We chose Stage 6 Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard for its stunning views of New York City. It was a unique venue that we had never thought we’d choose, but once we visited and saw how close it was to NYC yet still unique, we knew it would be perfect for a modern summer wedding.
Eric, our venue coordinator was also the most organized and genuinely thoughtful coordinator we could’ve asked for. Thank you, Eric!
We chose Judy Pak as our photographer because of her beautifully romantic photos. There’s a casualness to her portraits that we appreciated because we’ve never taken photos like this and didn’t know how comfortable or photogenic we would end up being. She has a very unique vision for her photos and guides you in your poses, but will ultimately take a gorgeous candid photo that’s unexpected.
The two things that we wanted to ensure there was PLENTY of was food and dancing. We chose Scratch Weddings after a long debate – (band vs. DJ). We ultimately went with a DJ knowing that most of our friends are young and into a lot of diverse music. DJ Dan Chavez was awesome and the musical cues were perfect throughout the night. By the end, everyone was on the dance floor.
Lion in the Sun is a Brooklyn based stationery company. They had the perfect invitation suite with the Brooklyn Bridge as a backdrop along with some whimsical vintage additions. They were friendly and a truly New York company.
Barbara’s Flowers was our florist. Tara from Barbara’s Flowers completely understood my vision and she did an amazing job with everything! Our bouquets were lush and white with hints of green and pink.
She also knew I really wanted to incorporate Baby’s Breath in huge bundles so the aisles had urns with large bouquets and the front of the aisle had two huge bundles to add to the skyline.
The reception had tall centerpieces of more lush white hydrangeas, roses, sweet peas, ranunculus and dusty miller. They were romantic but so modern and simple.
Don’t focus on the small things and don’t try to do EVERYTHING. I think a lot of brides put pressure on themselves to have a perfect wedding down to the silverware, signs, banners, favors, etc., but ultimately it’s much easier to focus on a few very personal things. Those are the things people will remember. And if you’re stress free and having a blast, your guests will too. Really!
