A Newport Beach Wedding Coordinated by Brooke Keegan Events
I can’t believe that Alex and Ally’s wedding will be the last real wedding feature in 2012!!! What a year this has been! … and what a way to go out! This real wedding is truly spectacular … elegant, with vintage and rustic touches … Brooke Keegan and Holly Flora kicked this one out of the park!!! I am so impressed by the shades of purple and green … and I absolutely love the succulent wedding cake (do you remember this succulent topped wedding cake we featured?). I love love LOVE it and hope you do too! Be safe tonight and bring in the new year with your loved ones.
We hired a wedding coordinator. We met Brooke of Brooke Keegan Weddings and Events through the Shady Canyon Golf Club event planner Shelley. When my mom and I met Brooke we knew that she would be the best fit. Brooke totally understood what we wanted our wedding to look like. She was beyond helpful with vendors and the overall planning experience. She really helped keep us focused and was a great calming source when things got hectic. On the wedding day was when I truly appreciated all Brooke did. I do not know what we would have done without her. Alex just raves about all that she did, she made our day so extra special and kept our reception flowing the entire time. Even my dad gave her a huge thanks in his speech, Brooke is someone I would recommend to all my family and friends because I know that any wedding she works for will turn out to be more than a bride could imagine.
Alex and I both really love where we live and wanted to have a venue and wedding that really showed how wonderful of a place Southern California is. The church we used is my family’s church down on the beach. When we found our venue; Shady Canyon Golf Club we knew that it was the perfect setting. Shady Canyon is placed among gorgeous rolling hills with incredible landscape that was the perfect backdrop for our reception. I spent a lot of time on Pinterest and looking at friend’s weddings to get ideas for what ours would look like. I really wanted to have an understated elegance using low table centerpieces, succulents, olive trees and herbs. We did not use your typical ‘two colors’ but wanted to use all shades of our favorite colors to bring in lots of contrast, and it all turned out better than I could have imagined.
We used Holly Flora out of Los Angeles for our flowers. We got their name from our wedding coordinator and after our first meeting I knew I had to work with them. They are young, enthusiastic and incredibly talented. They really grasped what we had in mind for our florals and really created an even more beautiful setting than I could have imagined. When Alex and I had our preview of the reception before the rest of our guests it really took our breath away. My bouquet and my bridesmaid bouquets were beyond stunning, when the flowers arrived at my parent’s house before the ceremony I just knew the day was going to be unbelievable. They also created some adorable flower wands for our flower girls, a three year old’s absolute dream. I really could not say enough great things about Holly Flora.
We loved our wedding cake. We had so much fun with the tasting and were just ecstatic about how our cake turned out. We did not want a regular white cake so we chose a more light coffee colored cake. Since we had somewhat of a rustic-elegant theme going we really loved the idea of the cake with branches. Simply Sweet Cakery also had a beautiful vintage cake tray we were fortunate to use. And Holly Flora topped off the cake beautifully with some succulents!
I chose Leah Marie Photography because a friend of our family had used her for a wedding they had the year before. Leah was a real pleasure to work with, she always made Alex and I feel really comfortable and made us her top priority. No one warns you that wedding day photos can be a bit draining but Leah really kept our energy up and got some really amazing shots. We were also lucky to do an engagement photo session with her that was used to make our guest book, which all of our guests really enjoyed looking through. Our wedding album is so fun to look through, all the photos make me smile every time I go back through them.
Shady Canyon Golf Club is a really special place. The buildings are all Spanish style, which is my favorite. The grounds are absolutely incredible. The landscaping, golf course and mountain backdrop are nothing short of spectacular. We had our reception on the lawn that is surrounded by trees and a rose garden where we had our cake. I had never been anywhere like Shady Canyon and when we had the opportunity to have our reception there Alex and I had no reason to look anywhere else. The event coordinator Shelly was a dream to work with as well. She made all the planning so easy on our part and really took so much pride in our reception. The food at Shady Canyon is also out of this world. All of our guests loved the food and made a huge effort to tell us afterwards how much they enjoyed it. We also got to have an after party when the reception was over at 10. The after party was a total hit. Most of the guests stayed and enjoyed french fries and more dancing!
To all future brides, don’t worry about tiny details, they all get worked out in the end. And enjoy every minute of your wedding day live in the moment and if there is something not totally perfect ignore it. There is no day like your wedding day, I wish I could go back to it more than anything. Have fun!
