Advice from brides who are doing the same as you (right now!!) ... PLANNING THEIR WEDDING :)  Our blog addition, Bride in the City will give you inside info from other brides to help you along the way and make you feel like you're not the only one :)  So ... get ready to bond with Bride in the City guest:  Jenny Murray

When did you become engaged?

When is the big day?

September 10, 2010

Who are the wedding vendors that you have already decided to hire?

Talented and artistic Carlie Statsky for photography.
Yummy food by Paradise Catering in Carmel Valley.
Entertainment by The Steve Ezzo Band out of Monterey.
Beautiful flowers done by Linda of Country Essences Flowers.

What is your venue and why did you choose it?

The amazing and beautiful Holman Ranch for the wedding ceremony and reception.  We love the venue because of its rustic beauty, but also because we can have our friends and family stay there with us so we can celebrate with them throughout the weekend.

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?

I'm most excited to marry my best friend. Can't wait to see all of our planning come together with all the people who we love there to witness the special day.

Is there anything you are nervous about for your wedding day?

Nothing, I can't wait!!! We have an amazing team of vendors to take care of the problems, that is why I hired a planner so I don't have to worry or be nervous. I am so excited to see everyone!

What is your wedding theme or concept going to be?  What inspired it?

Romantic and Rustic. I love Anthropologie so I had that in mind when buying bridesmaid dresses and creating the feel for the theme of the event.

Did you decide to hire a wedding coordinator?  Why did you decide this?

Yes! We needed a coordinator from the start. Both Jef and I are very busy people and we knew to help keep us on track we needed to hire a coordinator through the planning process. Karissa of Coastside Couture, recommended our vendors, kept us up-to-date on our to-dos and basically kept us on track. We can't imagine not hiring a planner and  love working with Karissa.

What are some of your favorite wedding planning blogs and tools?

We don't need a planning tool, we have Karissa! :)

Is your husband-to-be helping with the planning?  What are his jobs?

Jef had his opinions mainly about the menu and the entertainment. We went and saw a few different local bands to make sure that our guests were getting the most fun, entertaining band so we can cut a rug at our wedding.

What is your best advice to brides who are currently planning their wedding?

Get a wedding planner, they take so much stress off and you know they are going to make your special day the best and you won't have to worry about a  thing!!!!!!

Are you planning to see each other before the ceremony for photos?  Why or why not?

I am still not sure. I want to get the majority of the photos over so we can spend time with our guests but I also thing it may be amazing to see the look on Jef's face when he gets to see me walking down the aisle for the first time.

What are 3 words that describe how you feel right now?

Excited, Excited and Excited!

Angie and Grant's Los Angeles Wedding

How would we describe Angie and Grant's wedding? In the words of the couple, scholarly elegance says it best :)  Using vintage books in their decor and elegant floral arrangements (designed by Commerce Flowers), their theme shined at their reception, held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.  Check it all out by clicking here!

Verbena Floral

Two things I am hopeless at:  flowers and my hair.  Flower design, with all those individual stems, seems like something that would take particular talent!  Austin based Verbena Floral Design definitely has what it's got!
An overview of their recent designs has sooo many ideas to get you started on your flower quest.  Of course, don't miss our guide on how to work with your florist!
luv, Kimberly

This lovely wedding was held at AMOA Laguna Gloria in mid October. The bride incorporated herbal greenery, citrus and succulents for an organic feeling to compliment her personality.

The event was held at the beautiful Austin Design Center. The addition of amber votive candles brought a beautiful ambience to the evening.  (photo by: Verbena Floral Design)

Above: An afternoon wedding featuring shades of green and white provided the opportunity for us to use seasonal fruit and flowers to create this arrangement. Layers of texture are created with a mix of pears, apples, artichokes, lissianthus, roses, and hydrangea. Meanwhile the romance factor is heightened by incorporating green hanging amaranthus and a shabby chic container. (photo by: Jennifer Lindberg)

Refreshingly Efficient

Looking for a last minute solution for your wedding escort cards?  I love what Evonne & Darren Photography's Maui bride did with Waialua soda bottles! Not only do the bottles brighten up the table and continue the Hawaii wedding theme but they just might lessen the number of people mobbing your bartender during the cocktail hour.

If a Hawaiian theme isn't in your plans, some other sodas that could definitely work for this idea are Jones Soda {with customizable photos!}, Mexican Jarritos {super colorful and sugary!}, or Dry Soda {minimalist and elegant, not to mention an incredible cocktail mixer}

Hey Cupcake!

As soon as I saw a cupcake donning the top of an airstream trailer, I had to know who the genius was who decided to put these two perfect elements together!  It's Wes of Austin based Hey Cupcake!  He followed his 'Vanilla American Dream' and created a fleet of cupcake airstream trailers positioned across the city and one actual shop.  Aside from being amazing backdrops for photos, Hey Cupcake has an army of fans singing their praise online.  One fan even points out that if you ask, they can inject the frosting into your cupcake!
We put some cupcake questions to Wes including the one we know you want an answer to... Can you get the airstream at your reception... read on!
Q: Why cupcakes?
A: There's just something about cupcakes that makes them awesome!

Q: What's the most creative way you've seen a wedding use your cupcakes?
A: Hmm...well, we did an awesome custom cupcake with a chocolate/vanilla icing swirl topping.  The bride had them displayed on a "cupcake tree" that was probably six BIG stories high.  It was super cool.

Q: Will the cupcake airstream come to a reception?
A: Very soon!  We're working on outfitting an Airstream that will be exclusively available for special events and occasions.

Q: Do you think cupcake couples are more or less likely to have naughty or nice cake cuttings?  {will they get messy when feeding each other?}
A: I think they are more likely to get messy with cupcakes, all the icing is on the top versus many wedding cakes where it's layered.  More icing = more mess = more smiles.

Q: Vanilla or chocolate?  Boutonniere or pocket square?  Tuxedo or suit?

A: Chocolate.  Pocket square.  Retro suit.

Thanks to Daniel C Photography for the amazing cupcake trailer photo!

Lineage Bridal - Eco Chic Designer Gowns

The website reads like a lineup from fashion week!  Vera Wang, Kenneth Pool, Anne Barge, & Pronovias... But, instead of fashion week type prices, Charlotte based, LineageBridal.com resells gently used and sample {and completely guaranteed} designer gowns.  It reminds me of Gilt Groupe or Rue La La for weddings.

Every dress has complete details when it comes to sizing, color, and even hemming information.  All of the gowns are contemporary as of the last three years.  Along with the selection of current gowns, don't miss owner Natasha's dreamy blog posts about the gowns for offer.

While based in Charlotte, Lineage is a nationwide service.  If you're looking for an Eco-Chic alternative to a new gown purchase, check them out!
