A Carmel Wedding at Tehama Golf Club

Derek and I fell in love with Tehama Golf Club at first sight. It really is that simple. It was the only place that made us take a step back and just say "wow." The views of the Pacific Ocean and Monterey were unbeatable, and the ambience of the entire venue really just spoke to us and our personal style.

Finding Danielle Capito Photography was truly a blessing. Her style of photography was initially what caught my eye. I loved the way she captured the raw emotion and love of the day. None of her photos ever seem posed or forced which I loved. She is so incredibly talented and we were so lucky to have found her!

The concept behind our wedding day was a romantic and classy atmosphere while still remaining very casual. We wanted our wedding day to reflect our personalities, so keeping things comfortable with a splash of sophistication was our goal.

Floral Design by Reina out of Monterey, California was our florist! I absolutely loved our flowers - and even more so our arbor which she made, as well. I had told her what I had in mind and she created it from scratch to perfectly match my vision, and it ended up being my favorite decorative detail of the whole event! The best part about Reina was easily her excitement, you could tell that she loved what she did, and that she thoroughly wanted to make me happy. Her exuberance made me more excited about flowers than I ever thought possible and made the entire process a breeze!

Going into dress shopping I knew that I wanted something fitted and classic, as I have never been much of a fluffy or sparkly kind of girl. The second I put on my gown I knew it was the one. I felt beautiful in it. What truly sold me on the gown was the unique color of champagne it was and the way I thought it would perfectly compliment our outdoor setting. The entire experience was all that a girl hopes it to be! [dress design Paloma Blanca]

The catering for our wedding day was contracted directly through the restaurant at Tehama Golf Club. We visited Carmel about six months prior to taste our food and sample appetizers that would be similar to the ones served at the wedding. Our main dish was a filet with large prawns, potatoes and vegetables. Some of our appetizers include Tempura Dipped Artichoke Hearts with Seasame Aioli, Smoked Salmon on Brioche Toast with Creme Fraiche and Caviar, Mini Duck Wontons with Asian Slaw & Orange-Chili Glaze (my favorite), and Rosemary Grilled Lamb Loin Chops. The food was beyond delicious and it makes me hungry just thinking about it! :)

Deciding on a candy bar was one of the first concrete decisions I made about our wedding day. I knew I wanted a small cake to be the centerpiece of a more casual display of delicious (handmade) candies. Layers Sensational Cakes designed our two tiered round cake and it was absolutely delicious. Both Derek and I like red velvet and perhaps it is the only cake flavor we can agree on to share! We also had several sheet cakes for our guests that were traditional white flavored and their famous 'death by chocolate' which is exactly what it implies. I would have have had an entire tier of this flavor to myself that night had they let me. It is THAT good!

My biggest piece of advice is to simply enjoy your engagement! Be in the present moment of excitement and anticipation with your fiance because it goes by so quickly. Knowing that this special period of time was temporary made it that much easier for me to take things in stride, and savor every second of it.

Kaila: Walking into our reception after being announced as Mr. & Mrs. Derek Walls for the first time was a special moment for me. Being so warmly welcomed by our friends and family, as well as the love I felt from my Derek in that instant was unbeatable.
Derek: When I finally got to see my bride for the first time in her beautiful dress. And of course, being able to kiss her for the first time after being officially pronounced husband and wife.
