A Dearborn Michigan Wedding at the Henry Ford Museum
I love this Dearborn Michigan wedding .. I love the details, I love the venue, and I love this bride's style! I think it would be so amazing to be married inside of a museum and Sarah and Mark chose a gorgeous one! I love their table settings with the airplanes flying overhead :)

We actually booked our photographer before we even picked a venue. We even choose our date based on K. Holly's availability. After attending a wedding that Kristen and Jamie were photographing, we became nearly obsessed with their work. We were so impressed by their professionalism and inspired photo-journalistic style, that we knew we had to have them for our wedding. We can't even begin to say enough good things about K. Holly Photography. From our engagement session all the way through to the wedding day, Kristen and Jamie made us feel so relaxed and comfortable... which is no easy feat for two people that are normally very camera-shy!
Emerald City Designs handled all of our decor, including floral design. Nicole, our event director, was able to create exactly what I had envisioned in my mind come to life! It was so nice to use one vendor for so many aspects of the wedding. I didn't have to worry about cohesiveness at all, because I knew Nicole would make sure our stationery flowed with our floral design, table settings, etc. Our flowers turned out amazing! There was just enough structure and cohesiveness to the design, while still feeling organic and inspired. They were absolutely stunning!
The concept for our wedding was classic, simple, and elegant. We are both very detail-oriented people with a love of clean, intentional design and a slight fear of clutter. We wanted our wedding to express this part of us by keeping things simple. We didn't want the subtle details to get lost in too many things going on. Not only that, but The Henry Ford Museum is such an impressive space by itself that we didn't want to distract from that.
Also, because of the historical nature of our venue, our wedding took on a slight vintage feel. For example, instead of traditional table numbers, we used years and included pictures of us from each corresponding year on the tables. We also arranged family wedding pictures from several generations around the cake table to tie-in with that theme.
We have both lived in Dearborn our whole lives, and we have a strong sense of pride on our city. So, it was important to us to choose a venue near us. My parents were married at The Henry Ford's Martha Mary Chapel, and we loved the idea of continuing the tradition. When we met with The Henry Ford to discuss use of the chapel for the ceremony, we found out that Henry Ford Museum was available as a reception space. That seemed almost too perfect to be true! What a historic, unique, and absolutely gorgeous space! We were also happy to choose a unique space, something different than your typical banquet hall. We can't even tell you how many times people remarked "Wait, you mean we get to use the WHOLE museuem??"
We used Iversen's Bakery in Dearborn for our wedding cake. Both of our families buy Iversen's cakes for nearly every occasion, so they were an obvious choice when it came to our wedding cake. We were extremely satisfied with the quality and taste of our cake. We chose two different flavors so that our guests could have some variety. The first flavor was white cake with Bavarian creme and raspberry preserve filling. The second flavor was chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse filling. Both cakes were iced with a phenomenal butter creme icing.
Aside from making delicious cakes, Iversen's was also super flexible. I really wanted to surprise Mark at the reception by having a groom's cake made for him. The only catch was that Mark is lactose-intolerant. Iversen's was able to make a special groom's cake for him using a dairy-free icing that was just as tasty as the regular cake!
Sarah: For me, the best moment of our wedding day happened at the start of cocktail hour. While our guests and bridal party were mingling in the Grand Promenade, we had the opportunity to preview the reception space on our own. Not only was it nice to have a quiet moment alone with my new husband, but it was wonderful to be able to finally show him all the details that I had been planning for the past year and a half! After he had a chance to look at everything, he remarked "Wow! This is really, really perfect. It's so... us!" For me, that meant everything.
Mark: While our whole wedding day was a wonderful experience, our first dance was the best moment for me. We had chosen a song that has a lot of meaning to us as a couple with The Script's "I'm Yours". We have listened to the song countless times together, but this was our first opportunity to dance to it. The fact that it was in front of all our friends and family celebrating our first moments as husband and wife was priceless.
Our biggest advice to brides and grooms is to choose quality vendors and let them handle the details. You shouldn't have to be stressed and frazzled on your wedding day. We made sure to choose vendors who came highly recommended and had all worked together before. This made for a seamless wedding day, and left us to relax and focus on the happiness we felt on our wedding day.
