You may know how much we LOVE California Vineyard and Winery weddings ... they are just so beautiful!! ... and this one is no different! We adore the colors, the flowers (designed by Dragonfly Floral), and the gorgeous private estate they were married at. Love it all below!
We worked with Amy Thumhart at Thumhart Event Consulting. We knew that planning a California wine country wedding from New York City was going to be challenging so our very first task was to hire a wedding coordinator to help us. David and I immediately clicked with Amy. It was clear from our very first phone conversation that she understood what we were looking for and she was able to make the planning process fun instead of stressful. We arranged one trip out to Sonoma in the early planning stages and Amy arranged for us to see the proposed event site, to interview photographers, to meet our caterer and plan the menu. She arranged for me to have a trial of my hair and makeup done and set up our cake tasting. Throughout the 7 months of planning Amy listened to all of our ideas and turned them in to exactly what we envisioned for our wedding day.
Our wedding planner Amy sent us a handful of photos of a private estate in Healdsburg that she had just visited for the first time. She knew we were looking for a rustic vineyard setting and this estate fit that description perfectly. We saw the venue only once in February before the wedding. We were both in awe when we arrived back at the venue in August when nature was in full bloom.
Selecting our photographer was one of the most important decisions we made in planning our wedding. David and I wanted the events of our day to be captured as they unfolded; spontaneous and not staged. Cliff Brunk's journalistic and artistic style was a perfect match for us and we loved working with him and his wife Malarie. Neither of us are overly keen on being photographed and, aside from when we shot the portraits, we hardly knew there were cameras focused on us. We couldn't be happier with our wedding photos, Cliff and Malarie truly captured the entire story of our day.
Before our tasting, David and I had decided that we wanted a simple yet different cake. Different meant chocolate fudge icing instead of the traditional white fondant wedding cake. Selecting the cake, as it turns out, was one of the more difficult decisions we had to make. We couldn't decide on a flavor at our tasting because they were all incredibly delicious so we decided to offer our guests a chance to taste a little of everything. We ended up with 3 cakes (not including the groom's cake) and offered our guest 5 different flavors to choose from! All our cakes were baked by Patisserie Angelica.
The most important advice we have for brides and grooms is to remember that your wedding day is about the two of you. The day should be a reflection of who you are as individuals and as a couple.
Our rustic wine country wedding was inspired by our first vacation together as a couple to Sonoma. We live and work in a very fast paced city (New York) and we fell in love with the laid back relaxed atmosphere that surrounds you when you find yourself in wine country.
We used Wedding Paper Divas for both our save the dates and our invitations. Wedding Paper Divas offered a selection of vineyard themed invitations the fit our style perfectly. The staff was extremely helpful sending drafts of every piece, including the mailing labels, and made all changes and corrections in a timely fashion.
