We worked with Poorvi Matani of InviteInk, who put together an elegant and classic look that incorporated our vibrant wedding colors. Poorvi was incredibly easy to work with, despite the fact that we were on opposite coasts. She was very patient with us and always delivered when it came to crunch time. Many of our friends and family commented that our wedding invitation was the most beautiful they had ever seen!
We had the pleasure of working with Jeannie Savage and her staff at Details Details Wedding and Event Planning. There aren’t enough great things we can say about Jeannie and her team! She was there to support us from the very beginning, giving us honest, insightful feedback and advice as we evaluated venues and vendors, and helped us think through our options to make the best decisions. Everyone she recommended was incredibly competent and in our price range, so we truly got to choose the vendors we ‘clicked with’ the best. Particularly important, was that when we did hit bumps in the road, Jeannie stepped up to the plate and was clearly ‘on our side’. She was able to use her relationships with vendors to smooth over problems, and work as our advocate to quickly resolve any issues without the ‘drama’ that often happens! Jeannie was absolutely fantastic, from our first meeting through our wedding and the post-wedding follow-up! She took the stress away and let us truly enjoy our wedding!
Shawna Yamamoto Event Design and her team were fantastic! When we started working with her, we had a lot of different ideas about what we liked, but had a hard time distilling them into something clear. She patiently listened to us, and then carefully iterated through a series of designs until we hit on a beautiful design that was modern and elegant, while incorporating our colors and some Indian flair. We absolutely loved the final product! The pictures speak for themselves!
I wanted to walk down the aisle in a white dress, but also wanted to incorporate Indian elements to help blend with our fusion Chinese-Hindu ceremony. Enter: Dawn Kim, atelier extraordinaire who transformed my vision into reality! She was a dream to work with—she has a distinct eye for design, helps you decide on the most flattering looks, and works within your budget to create a custom gown with impeccable fit. She helped me design a white gown with a sweetheart neckline and ruched bodice. To give it an Indian flair, she incorporated an asymmetrical waist to create the illusion of two pieces as is customary in an Indian sari, with a free-flowing sash of gold floral lace detail reminiscent of the palloo scarf portion of a sari, and another triangular panel of gold detailing in the skirt to highlight the Indian theme. She even hand-stitched Swarovski crystals to help it glisten in our outdoor ceremony! The dress was truly one of a kind, and I felt absolutely beautiful on my wedding day.
We wanted to do justice to both our Indian and Chinese heritages, along with our shared American culture, so we sought to incorporate elements of each into our wedding. With the help of our friends and family, we designed a unique logo for our invitations that incorporated the Ganesha that is central to Indian weddings, and the Double Happiness, Dragon, and Phoenix symbols that are central to Chinese weddings. Most importantly, we really wanted to weave elements of ancient Chinese wedding ceremonies into a Hindu ceremony to truly personalize our wedding and even played both traditional Indian and Chinese instrumental music in the background to help achieve this effect.
We knew we wanted a place close to the ocean, and some of our first dates were along the coast in Orange County. While we always enjoyed the beauty of the area, we were breathtaken when we first visited The Resort at Pelican Hill! With the gorgeous setting and amazing hospitality, we were sold! Erin Killingsworth and her entire team were incredibly helpful in making our vision come to reality!
The team at Pelican Hlll did an incredible job preparing a custom multi-course menu that brought out our love for California cuisine, enhanced by Asian and Indian flavors. Importantly, they went out of their way to take care of our vegetarian guests, working with us to ensure that they got the same creative cuisine and elegant meal as our other guests. The end result was a magnificent meal with top quality service that made our guests feel like they were dining at a great restaurant! A special thanks to Chef Keith Pooler from Bergamot in Sommerville, MA for helping us craft our menu!
We hired Peter Papadopoulos of Vive Entertainment to DJ our wedding. We knew he was a hit when at our welcome dinner, the mix was so perfect that all 200 guests squeezed onto the tiny dance floor and were excited that he would be back the following day for the actual wedding! He was so professional, yet really catered to our very diverse crowd and got the party going! He had more Chinese and Indian music than either of us in our own music libraries, and introduced us to genres of music we never knew about! We felt so comfortable leaving everything to him with some simple instructions (no small task for me since I was a music major in college!) and he even helped us with a moving sound system for the Barat, the traditional Indian groom’s entrance!
We fell in love with Joe Latter’s vibrant images and his infectious personality when we first met him. He made us much more photogenic than we thought possible, we had plenty of laughs along the way, and he delivered amazing images. One of our favorite experiences was our day-after shoot, when we went to Laguna Beach. Joe, in his quest to create the absolute best images possible, carried me on his back up a large craggy rock to get some unique shots just as the sun was setting. We were really impressed with Joe’s love of photography, his sense of adventure, and his eye for detail.
At the end of the day, make sure you enjoy yourselves! Also, make time for a few 'special moments' - for us, when changing between the ceremony and reception, the groom, groomsmen, and father of the groom gathered in private for a round of honest, sincere, and heartfelt toasts - this was one of the best moments of the wedding!
