Momental Designs Invitations

Brides, wedding bloggers, design gurus, and anyone with taste who may be reading this blog already knows about Kristy Rice of Momental Designs.  Her work is found on EVERY blog that exists, so we felt it was time to bring a few of these gems to one spot so that we can all drool, oooh, ahhhh, and be inspired together (of course you can see ALL her work on her renowned blog Rice Ink).  Below is a collection of her works and each invitation suite is broken up by which wedding or design blog featured it first.  You can click on the link to see more about what the initial inspiration was for Kristy and which beautiful blog showcased it.  We adore all these blogs and are so happy that Kristy (along with the blogs) have let us share in the experience that all these works of art have to offer.  Of course, on the very top you can see the design challenge Kristy did for us ... using one of our beautiful Style Unveiled ladies :)  Seeing it again makes me smile.  Be sure and scroll all the way to the bottom of this post for an exclusive interview with Kristy of Rice Ink and Momental Designs.

INTERVIEW WITH KRISTY OF MOMENTAL DESIGNS:
Q.  Is there something special you do to get inspired?  For instance, a special room you paint and design in, special music you like?

Kristy:  At the Studio music and the Momental Girls are key.  Nothing gets me more inspired when creating a new painting for a couple than some upbeat music and the laughter of the Girls at work.  When I am out and about during my travels;  painting just because, solitude is key...one of my favorite paintings was created along the banks of the Virgin River in Utah, no one was around and the only sound was the rushing water beside me.  Perfection.

Q.  The design challenges you do are just amazing ... we were just floored by what you did with our inspirational challenge ... who do you hope one day will challenge you with something?  A blog you just adore, a specific person, a specific item?

Kristy:  Wow, thank you!  True inspiration, the kind that elicits memorable art comes in the small nuances of life.  I was instantly captivated by the Style Unveiled logo; simple watercolor textures and the bold, expressive touches of color were pure joy to create from.
Well my secret hope is about to be a secret no more!  I am obsessed with gorgeous bags and Kate Spade has long been an inspiration.  Designing an invitation inspired by a bag of her choice or better yet designing a bag with this icon would just make this artist's week, month, year...career!!! Can you tell I'm excited?

Q.  When you were growing up, what did you want to be?  Why?

Kristy:  Everyone would probably expect me to say, an artist of course but honestly as a young child I wanted to be a Beautician!  Something about shaping and sculpting hair into beautiful shapes intrigued me.  I loved the idea that hair could be colored and once even tried to mix my own hair dye concoction from ripe red berries!

Q.  What colors do you most love designing in?

Kristy:  I am asked this question so often but love to answer every time.  Quite honestly I do not have a favorite.  I favor more bold shades but I seem to gravitate towards something new every week!  I have found the best way to answer this question is by sharing my latest color obsession, so here goes!  Lately I am drawn again and again to the intensity, crispness and drama of cerulean blue.  It conjures peaceful images of southwestern skies and ocean waters and who could resist that?

Q.  Is there a project you are just dying to be asked to do for a client?  What does it look like?  Feel like?  What are these dream clients like?

Kristy:  I am truly blessed with innovative clients and in fact a project in the works now has me collecting over 300 unique yet vintage brooches to adorn her lavishly painted bloom invitations.  Definitely a dream come true.  Lately I am envisioning a project where I am asked to hand paint dreamy landscape scenes on rough hewn pieces of wood.  Each would be wrapped in simple brown paper that when opened reveals the wood block with a simple invitation tag hanging from natural twine.  I am all about creating mini artworks that help guests savor a celabratory moment before the big day even arrives...  The couple I imagine for this project would be marrying in the woods near Yosemite Falls or under a live oak in the Carolinas...  These projects require first and foremost a lot of trust.  Our brooch bride, as I affectionately call her is very involved in the process but confident in her instinctive color and style choices and leaves the exacting details to us.  She sits back and enjoys the freedom of letting the artists do what they do best; listen, interpret, discover and play!! The results of trusting design relationships at their best result in jaw-dropping works; true pieces of art that are tangible memories and keepsakes so much more than just a piece of paper.

Q.  Which one:

Ice-cream or popsicles? Popsicles, no question.
Hamburger or hotdog? Hamburger, medium rare please.
Fruits or veggies? Fruit.
Fire or ice?   Ice.  I am always warm!
Texting or talking? Talking. Always, but then there is Twitter....
Sand or waves? Waves for sure.  I spend one week a year at the beach and rarely leave the water.
