New York Wedding at The High Line

Modern Trousseau New York Bride

I love NYC ... who doesn't??  When I saw this styled shoot, which was located at The High Line, on one of my favorite blogs (Merci New York) I hoped we could feature it, too :)  Well, guess what!!  lol ... I love how New York this shoot is and of course all the fashion (that short dress!!!!) is to die for.  There is a fantastic write-up under all the photos from the team!

New York Styled Shoot at the High Line by Ang Weddings and Events and Maggie Marguerite Studios

The High Line in New York represents a creative way to recycle something unused into something beautiful. It was built in the 1930s, lifting traffic 30 feet in the air and removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan.  The trains stopped functioning in the 1980s, and in 2006, work started to convert it into an elevated public park.  Phase one opened in June 2009 and it has since transformed the surrounding neighborhood.  The second phase of the High Line opened in June 2011 and we planned this styled shoot in conjunction with the opening.  The skyline of New York and the wild greenery of the High Line created a unique contrasting backdrop for the shoot.

This bride and groom wanted to have an eco-green wedding and used the urban, organic and wild elements of the High Line to influence the rest of their wedding design.  The colour palette was green, cream and brown, with hints of purple and yellow.  They used local wedding vendors in neighboring Chelsea, West Village and the Garment District, to reduce travel time and carbon emission.  Being busy New Yorkers, the ability to meet with their vendors in their neighborhood also helped make their wedding planning process easy.

The flowers were created by Blush Designs - “looking to reflect the simplicity of the High Line's landscape and its contrast of industrial train tracks with wild flora, we chose to mix traditional flowers with some contemporary touches.  To give the first bouquet a sense of movement, we loosely bound white Phalaenopsis Orchids with variegated Lily Grass, strands that looped around and hung from the spray.  In the second, traditional flowers—Alabaster white Garden Roses, white Astilbe, Picasso Calla Lilies, and Hosta leaves—were tightly grouped by species to create a more modern look.

The bride model wore two gowns by Modern Trousseau, both with floral detailing to complement the lush greenery on the High Line.  The long gown Piper had a classic design, perfect for a New York bride.  The jeweled sash accentuated the bride’s waist and the sweetheart neckline framed her face beautifully.  The short dress Daphne was much more playful, and a throwback to the 1920s and 1930s, when the High Line was built.  Modern Trousseau uses leftover material from production to create their sashes and belts, leaving little to waste.  Stunning jewelry from Tejani completed both looks.  The groom model’s tux was custom made by Kleinfeld Men, accessorized with classic black cuff links and a black bow tie.

The bride and groom had their first look and pre-wedding photo shoot at the High Line.  They also stopped to share a small picnic, with delicious cupcakes from Billy’s Bakery.  The crockery used was from Fishs Eddys, complete with the New York skyline pattern.

The bridesmaid model’s dark truffle Perry dress from 57Grand was designed and constructed in the Garment District.  The modern sheath with a sharply cut graphic neckline was an urban counter to the bride’s floral detailed gown.  Tejani provided the stud earrings and cuff bracelet.
