When did you become engaged?

When is the big day?

Who are the wedding vendors that you have already decided to hire?
We've hired some pretty awesome vendors. We are so excited!
Our number one priority was to make sure our Pastor, David Stanley, was available to marry us. Once we asked him and he said yes, it really felt official that we were getting married.
Our next priority was to find a photographer who captured the heart of the day - not poses. As I was saving ideas I liked from different wedding blogs, I noticed a lot of the pictures looked similar. I went back and realized a lot of them were captured by Erin Hearts Court Photography - a unique and amazing husband-wife team. Alex really liked them as well. I remember I kept looking at their blog and finally contacted them to see if they were available on our wedding date. After we met them we became even more excited. We had so much fun shooting our engagement session with them. They are so uniquely talented and we are so excited to have the photos they capture on our wedding day for the rest of our lives!
Our florist is Wendie Monrroy. I grew up visiting her store, Wendie Monrroy On Main, with my mom every time we visited my grandma in downtown Riverside. After Alex and I got engaged, my mom was visiting and overheard Wendie talking about how she is a florist and has done hundreds of weddings. I set up a meeting with her and knew I wanted her as our florist! She is so creative and her work is beautiful. I cannot wait to see beautiful creations she makes on our wedding day.
Our caterer and DJ were recommended to me from the lady who helped me find my wedding dress. Our DJ is Andrew Langsam from Get in the Groove Entertainment. For food, Alex and I wanted to do something more fun and low-key...something homey. We decided to go with bbq :). Doug at Out Back Catering is going to be making and serving our guests yummy hor dourves and dinner.
At first I did not want a wedding planner, but then my mom persuaded me to get one for the day before and wedding day. Stef Muse from Inspired Events is our wedding coordinator. I am happy I found her so I can totally rest on those two days. More importantly, I want both of my parents and Alex's parents to be able to just rest and enjoy the day - not worrying or being in charge of anything. They all have done so much for me in helping prepare for the wedding. I want that day to be a day of celebration, laughter, and tears of joy without worrying about any responsibilities.
What is your venue and why did you choose it?
We are so blessed! We are getting married at The Burrage Mansion. My dad's friend bought the mansion in 2007 with goals to turn it into a safe place for kids in need. When Alex and I were dating for 6 months, my parents casually teased us that we could get married there someday. A couple weeks after Alex proposed, my parents called us and surprised us with the news! We are so excited...the grounds are beautiful! We are the 3rd couple to get married there and the best part is all proceeds go to help the kids :)
What are you most excited about for your wedding day?
Oh my goodness, I cannot wait to walk down the aisle holding onto my dads arm toward Alex. I cannot wait to see Alex's face for the first time that day while I try to not sprint towards him :) What makes that even better is seeing my best friends who have supported and encouraged me throughout life waiting up there for me as well. I cannot wait to "become one" with Alex.
Is there anything you are nervous about for your wedding day?
Honestly, I think the thing I am most nervous about is that I might cry too much once I see Alex and will have a hard time getting my vows out!
What is your wedding theme or concept going to be? What inspired it?
We don't really have a specific theme for our wedding. Alex's mom, my mom, and I kind of mushed our heads together and thought of some pretty neat unique ideas. I am one who loves unique and creative ideas, and my almost mother-in-law is so artistically talented! It has been awesome because we have become so much closer through because we have been able to have some in depth and special conversations with each other through this process! Also, even though my mom lives in a different state, we like to share ideas over the phone and she has been encouraging and helpful as well, as well as flying out as much as as she can to help me. It has been fun to shop and create a lot of DIY projects with them and other people. This process has truly made me realize how amazing my family and friends really are and how eager they are to help. Alex and I really are blessed.
Did you decide to hire a wedding coordinator? Why did you decide this?
Yes we did! Stef Muse from Inspired Events is our wedding coordinator. She is wonderful and very helpful. We wanted to create and plan our own wedding, but wanted someone we could bounce ideas off of and who could be in charge of everything on our wedding day and the day before so we and our families could completely enjoy the wedding day with no worries or having to think about specific responsibilities. We all - me, Alex, parents, and our friends, have worked so hard preparing for the wedding, that we want those two days to be filled with just family, friends, laughter, tears, joys, and celebration. It gives me a peace of mind knowing Stef will be in charge!
Where are you planning to go for your honeymoon?
We are going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica! Woohoo! It seems surreal we get to be married and then go on a week vacation to celebrate with each other in Jamaica. Alex is especially excited for this part!
What are some of your favorite wedding planning blogs and tools?
I might be biased, but I love Erin Hearts Court blog. I really enjoy looking at their blog each time they update it. Also, I am always excited to check out Style Unveiled, Green Wedding Shoes, Wedding Gawker, and Martha Stewart Weddings.
Is your husband-to-be helping with the planning? What are his jobs?
Alex has been so wonderful. Being a perfectionist, I can easily get wrapped up in planning all the details of the day. Alex helps me keep the important things (like preparing for marriage) in perspective. Even though I am the main planner for this wedding, I respect his leadership. He was not hesitant to ask how he could help me when he started to see me become stressed with planning. He has taken over wedding budgeting, the videographer, and rentals. We have really enjoyed working as a team, meaning we make all major budget decisions together, I ask his input on some decorating ideas, etc. We really like having the other take interest in the things the other gets more excited about.
What is your best advice to brides who are currently planning their wedding?
Really enjoy each other through this process. Planning the day that celebrates the day you and your man gets to be together for the rest of your lives should be a joy - not a stress. Not saying there won't be stress, but don't focus on making all the details perfect. Focus on preparing to be the best wife you can possibly be to your fiance. After I realized I was becoming too stressed about small details of the wedding, I was challenged to spend as much time if not more preparing to become the best woman for Alex as possible as I was with planning a wedding. I have been reading a few books, receiving encouragement and counsel from married women I respect, and sharing the things I am learning and excited about with Alex. It's already made such an awesome impact on our relationship and makes us even more excited for marriage.
Are you planning to see each other before the ceremony for photos? Why or why not?
We both knew from the beginning we wanted to see each other for the first time when I walked down the aisle toward him. For some reason I've always dreamed that. Alex really wanted that as well.
What are 3 words that describe how you feel right now?
Joyful. Loved. Content.
