What was your engagement shoot like? What was it like working with your photographer?
Working with our photographers was really amazing. It was the first really fun 'task' we had in our wedding planning process (and was a welcomed respite from all the heavy duty planning we'd been doing!). Both of us enjoyed putting together our outfits for the shoot and I enjoyed getting primped that morning for the shoot at MANE Blow Dry Bar in downtown Seattle. These were the first professional photos either of us had taken before (if you don't count our cheesy senior photos!) and so we were a little nervous about how it was going to go. Thankfully, one of the best decisions we've made in this whole process was hiring Alante Photography. They are phenomenal at what they do and are also fabulous people. They went out of their way to make us super comfortable with the whole process. We felt like we could be ourselves and we had lots of laughs together while we ran around the city capturing fun moments and some awesome scenery. They captured some really magical moments that day and we are so in love with each and every photo they took - we can't wait to see what they come up with for our wedding photos!!
Who are the wedding vendors that you have already decided to hire?
There are so many awesome vendors to choose from in Seattle. We ultimately went with the people who we really connected with and took into account any word of mouth recommendations we had received from others.
For our DJ, we hired Bamboo Beats - we've seen them in action at a wedding before and continue to hear amazing things about them on a regular basis!
For our Cake, we're actually using Whole Foods. They are putting together a buttercream frosted 'tiramisu' wedding cake for us (as a tribute to our Italian Honeymoon) and it tastes and looks AMAZING!
My Dress and Bridesmaid Dresses came from Cynderellie's Closet in Edmonds (the owner Denise is fabulous to work with!) and the Mother of the Bride/Groom Dresses came from Brides & Beyond in Lynnwood. The guys suits will be coming from Men's Wearhouse.
For our Invitations, we're working with Tiffany at 'Seal it with Love' and she is a dream to work with - very patient, helpful and knowledgeable!
As for Flowers, we're incredibly lucky since my parents own Brittany Flowers in Kirkland. My Mom is designing all the flower arrangements and we'll be decking the place out in flowers galore! She does phenomenal work and it's the one area of the wedding I don't have to worry or think about whatsoever because I know it will be fabulous :)
For our wedding night, the out of town guests and the rehearsal dinner we'll be staying/dining at the Alexis Hotel in downtown Seattle.
Still working on finding that perfect vendor for hair/make up and 'day of' transportation... ;)
What is your venue and why did you choose it?
The ceremony and reception are at the Seattle Tennis Club. We looked at venue after venue and were never really 'swooned' by anywhere. The Tennis Club was the only place we visited that we could really envision ourselves getting married at. It has sort of an old school, classy soiree vibe to it, which is exactly what were looking for. I should also mention that their Director of Catering, Amy Rathbone, is one of the most helpful vendors we've worked with throughout this whole process. She is very prompt in responding to our calls/emails (something a lot of venues were terrible at) and she is always more than happy to answer any questions that have popped up along the way. She has made everything really easy for us and I feel 100% confident in our venue and their service level standards moving forward. I think that is a huge thing for brides to look for and feel when booking a venue or hiring a vendor - there's so many other stressful things going on during this time that you need to have 100% confidence in the vendors you hire so you can relax and focus on other important things, like marrying the man of your dreams ;)
What are you most excited about for your wedding day?
We are most excited to have everyone we love in one room to celebrate with for one amazing day! I can't think of many other opportunities where we'll have everyone together and be able to celebrate with them and thank them for being such an integral part of our lives for so many years. I'm also really excited for that moment when we enter the ballroom as Husband and Wife for the first time!
Is there anything you are nervous about for your wedding day?
I'm nervous about saying our own vows (fiance's request) and I am also nervous about everything coming together. It's amazing to me how all the vendors will be working together to make the day happen. I do worry about everyone showing up on time and knowing when to do what and when, but again, I know I've hired a fabulous team, so I just have to trust in their abilities and sit back and let it happen!
What is your wedding theme or concept going to be? What inspired it?
We're loosely categorizing our wedding theme as 'Modern Vintage'. I really don't know that I've even fully figured out what that is, but we're trying to use some vintage elements without getting too kitschy. We're decorating with lots of old books, clocks and vintage bud vases with a single flower but still glamming it up with the modern trumpet vases, big/tall table centerpieces and votives (EVERYWHERE!). The theme sort of took on a a soft, romantic vibe as well with all the votives and the soft blush color we brought in. It's the perfect storm of all our favorite things!
Where are you planning to travel for your honeymoon?
We're traveling to Italy, leaving two days after the wedding. We're headed to Positano on the Amalfi Coast for the first 5 days and then traveling to Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre and Venice after that. We'll be gone for three weeks and we can't wait!!
How is your husband-to-be helping with the wedding planning? What are his tasks?
His biggest job has been supporting me while I run around like crazy lady (which he's been amazing at!). Sometimes after a full day of wedding errands it's nice to come home to a clean house and have a relaxing dinner together. A little bit of relaxation can go a long way. That said, he's been very active in each vendor selection and the groomsmen wear. We spent a lot of time weighing the pros and cons of everything together, we talked about each others personal priorities for the big day and then made each decision together. Thankfully, we've worked really well together throughout the whole process... phew! ;)
What is your best advice to brides who are currently planning their wedding?
Try to enjoy the process. I tend to get wrapped up in the all the details and recently realized the entire process was passing me by and I wasn't having any fun. I'm working really hard to change that and have been having a lot more fun with it, as of late. Like I said before, relax and let your vendors work their magic!
Also - delegate. delegate. delegate. Your friends and family WANT to help, trust me. It can be hard to delegate, but if you put in a little work up front to get organized enough to pass out the tasks, it will really lighten your workload and allow you to enjoy things a bit more!
Lastly, don't lose sight of why you're doing all this. It's supposed to be more about you and your fiance starting your lives together, and less about those roses being a shade too pink ;)
What are 3 words to describe how you feel right now?
Chaotic. Excited. Fortunate.
